"I’ve seen the giant beaver-emblazoned building at 3390 North Williston Road in Florence, which will open its first South Carolina Buc-ee’s on Monday, May 16; visible from I-95 are rows and rows of gas pumps, and the Florence travel center will occupy more than 53,000 square feet and offer 120 gas pumps. I’ve heard many Texans argue that Buc-ee’s is the best gas station for its super-clean bathrooms and ridiculously large selection of snacks, meals, and drink options; the most well-known packaged item, Beaver Nuggets, is described as “a sweet, crunchy corn snack with a flavor reminiscent of caramel,” and they share shelves with dozens of varieties of trail mix, nuts, and dried fruits and vegetables. Inside there are entire walls full of gummy candies, rows of jams and jellies, glass cases holding 24 different flavors of fudge, counters full of beef jerky, smoked sausages and other cured meats, and a quick-service restaurant serving brisket sandwiches, breakfast tacos, a pastrami reuben and many other items. Founded in 1982 and expanded into a travel center in Luling, Texas in 2001, the chain slowly built a cult following in Texas and began expanding outside the state in 2019." - Erin Perkins
