"Oz, the Australian-themed restaurant from D.C. power couple and The Real Housewives of Potomac personalities Ashley Darby and Michael Darby, will close on Sunday, June 30, after nearly four years in Clarendon. The restaurant released a statement today announcing the news. Oz (2950 Clarendon Boulevard) fueled on-camera drama for the reality show as the Darbys wrestled with the challenges of the hospitality industry. The menu was largely inspired by Michael’s hometown of Melbourne. “While Michael and Ashley are both involved in multiple business ventures and are expecting their first child in the coming weeks, they have made the difficult decision to close the restaurant,” the statement says. Chef Brad Feickert cooked in Australia for years before being tapped by Michael Darby — who also helms D.C. developing giant, Monument Realty — to lead the kitchen. His fusion menu, which played with Indonesian flavors and regional delicacies, weaved in exotic proteins like kangaroo skewers and sliders, emu wraps, and camel burgers. A daily happy hour offered discounts on Australian Shiraz, Foster’s drafts, “Whiskey Wombat” cocktails, and catfish bites. “We are replacing one Aussie baby with a new Aussie baby, as we prepare to welcome our little boy,” Michael Darby says in a statement." - Tierney Plumb
