"Despite Flushing’s influx of bigger-ticket Chinese restaurants, I still turn to Chu Kee, an old-fashioned dumpling stall offering more than 30 items from southern and northern China with posted translations so you can point if you don’t speak Chinese. The menu includes fried and steamed dumplings, scallion pancakes, soy milk and tofu preparations, and soups such as hot-and-sour, green bean jelly, and tremella (a fluffy white fungus); the sticky rice bundles known as zongzi make wonderful small meals, and my favorite is the Guandong rice cake ($3) with tidbits of mushroom and pork, browned with soy sauce. It’s perfect to eat while walking to the subway two blocks away." - Robert Sietsema
