"Opening next week at 1722 Routh Street in One Arts Plaza, I learned the Playwright Irish Pub is a new bar inspired by traditional Irish watering holes; owner Alan Kearney says he has carefully crafted a traditional pub like one might find in his hometown of Dublin. The cozy space—taking over the former Proof and Pantry—is outfitted with antiques and historical artifacts, including a few pieces of decor from the ill-fated Titanic, and the owners hope a more casual vibe and reasonable price points will attract drinkers. The menu features Irish favorites such as fish and chips, Scotch eggs, and shepherd’s pie, plus brunch options like corned beef hash skillets and poached eggs over grits, and the restaurant will make its own Guinness-spiked ice cream. At the bar there will be 50 beers on tap, including many Irish options, and “hundreds” of whiskeys and scotches. The Playwright opens Wednesday, November 14, and will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m." - Amy McCarthy
