Como’s Restaurant Opens in Ferndale on May 4 With Square Pizza - Eater Detroit
"A new, updated version of Como’s Restaurant is scheduled to return to the corner of Woodward Avenue and Nine Mile two weeks from now. Peas & Carrots Hospitality, whose partners purchased the Ferndale classic last year, will reopen Como’s with a Detroit-style square pizza menu on Saturday, May 4, according to a release. Como’s permanently closed in December 2017 after a series of serious health code violations damaged the longtime establishment’s reputation and forced it out of business. Under the supervision of Peas & Carrots partners chef Zack Sklar, Jim Bellinson, and Josh Humphrey the restaurant has undergone a full, gut renovation to help restore confidence in the business, while preserving the iconic name. Peas & Carrots worked with architecture firm McIntosh Poris on the revamp, which includes a changes to the facade, an entirely new dining room with Art Deco-inspired elements, and a refreshed ‘80s-style, “Miami throwback” patio. The restaurant group has also subdivided the space to accommodate a Traverse City Whiskey Co. tasting room. Como’s 2.0 will feature Sklar’s trendy version of a Detroit square pizza with naturally fermented dough rather than dough mixed with commercial yeast. The pizza will come with toppings like housemade sausage and imported cheese. (Gluten-free and vegan versions will also be available.) Additionally, customers can look out for options like pasta, sandwiches, and build-your-own salad.
