"Opened in downtown Beaverton by Sanjay Chandrasekaran in partnership with members of the Lightning Bar Collective, I find June to be an approachable, upscale cocktail bar with a 1920s French Art Deco–leaning vibe, vegan snacks, and craft drinks. The space features light wood details, a sleek granite bar, French bistro–style chairs, scallop-patterned lamp shades, and oversized art combining black-and-white portraits with vintage botanical illustrations; the bar manager calls it “very 1920s mixed with French Art Deco feel with cheeky rose and flower print booths.” Chef Chandrasekaran’s small plates echo elements of his Sudra past—think chile-garlic sauce and jalapeno chutney—and include turmeric-roasted Brussels sprouts with miso-curry ranch, kale pakoras with mango chutney and soy yogurt, masala fries with tandoori beet ketchup and cilantro-mint aioli (or a larger portion topped with tempeh, caramelized onions, tomato chutney, and roasted red pepper chutney), and a June Burger made from a blended Beyond-and-lentil patty with masala spice. Desserts include ginger-cardamom cake and a gluten-free pakora banana with fruity compotes and vanilla ice cream. Adam LeBeau crafted an approachable drinks menu with spirit-forward and nonalcoholic options: on-tap offerings include the Vickie Baby (gin, escubac, strawberry, passionfruit, and lime) and the spirit-forward Lowdown (rye, cognac, sweet vermouth, Montenegro amaro, orange liqueur, tiki bitters), while nonalcoholic choices range from a pineapple-orange coconut creamsicle to a hemp-based nonalcoholic spirit with blueberry and lemon and a strawberry-lemon shrub with soda; the entire bar program is vegan, using beet sugar and agave rather than honey. The Beaverton community has received June warmly since its September 2 opening, and the team says people are “stoked to have a place for all vegan food.”" - Waz Wu
