Shorty’s Deluxe

Sandwich shop · Del Ray

"Chef Nate Anda of Red Apron Butchery recently opened Shorty’s Deluxe, a sandwich shop inspired by New Orleans’ staple sammie, the muffaletta. Order the Joey stuffed with four Italian meats, provolone, and olive spread; or the Dee Dee filled with mortadella, stracciatella, cherry pepper spread, and onion marmalade by the half, quarter, or eighth of Anda’s huge round loaves of focaccia. But that’s not all Neighborhood Restaurant Group has on a near-block of Del Ray’s main drag. There’s the fancier Evening Star, Majestic and upstairs No. 9 Lounge, and outdoor Front Porch, plus bottle shop Planet Wine. We’re not done yet. Anda is also behind Hi/Fi Tex-Mex BBQ in Evening Star’s backyard, which serves nachos, smoked wings, chips and queso, tacos, and barbecue platters." - Rebecca Cooper
