"Mr. Baan’s introduces a style of Thai cooking rarely found in the U.S., much less in Phoenix, courtesy of Alex and Yotaka Martin, the duo behind Lom Wong. Located in the former Khla space behind Lom Wong’s original bungalow, the restaurant focuses on charcoal-grilled skewers (ping yaang) and mookata — a communal mash-up of hot pot and barbecue. Marinated meats, tofu, and vegetables sizzle on a domed grill, while the surrounding broth gets richer with each drip. Diners can tack on extra seafood or vegetables, then customize each bite with sukiyaki or seafood dipping sauces. The entire setup unfolds outdoors, reflecting the Martins’ evolving approach to their Thai-influenced food. Reservations are recommended, as Mr. Baan’s is already a hotspot." - Mcconnell Quinn, Nikki Buchanan
