"After 20 years of serving imaginative flavors of fantastic ice cream, topped with tiny extra “izzy” scoops, on Marshall Avenue, Izzy’s has announced its St. Paul location is now permanently closed. The business will continue to operate out of its larger, newer factory in Minneapolis. The shop started small in 2000, in this St. Paul location by owners Lara Hammel and Jeff Sommers. It eventually expanded to take over a neighboring space, before moving to the Minneapolis factory in 2013. Izzy’s flavors are available by the pint in grocery stores across the metro area. The scoop shop was known for inventive flavors, often featuring local products like Peace Coffee, Summit Oatmeal Stout, and Wild Country Maple Syrup. Scoops of ice cream were offered with an optional “izzy,” a tiny scoop of another flavor of ice cream. The back wall of the St. Paul shop had a wall of photos of kids named Izzy holding their “izzy” adorned cones. Izzy’s announced the closure on its website blog, saying that the Minneapolis location will be open for delivery starting May 4 within a 5 mile radius of that address. The St. Paul scoop shop is the latest in a slow wave of storefronts closing in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic." - Joy Summers
