"At the new Taqueria Las Gemelas, which opened for breakfast and lunch on March 15, I see they’re catering to street-food fans with a variety of tacos, tlayudas, and corn-tortilla quesadillas (an item Espita’s customers have long requested). The menu highlights include Roger’s lamb barbacoa available as a $5.50 taco with charred tomatillo salsa and onion, a braised beef lengua y cachete (“tongue and cheek”) taco with crisp tomatillo, onion, and salsa verde, and quesadillas in four options (quesillo four-cheese blend, adobo chicken, mushrooms and kale, or chorizo and potatoes). There’s also a market section selling 15- or 10-packs of tortillas, tlayudas, salsas, mole, chamoy, and chile salt, and desserts such as churros, a crispy rice treat, and a salty-sweet soft-serve (milk chocolate or dulce de leche) topped with crushed tortilla chips and mole negro chocolate sauce. The taqueria also offers three cocktails (margarita $9, mezcal margarita $10, chamoy negroni $11), Modelo on draft for $6, a $7 session IPA from Colima, and canned wines from Santa Julia." - Gabe Hiatt
