"After 17 years parked on East Olympic Boulevard, owner Raul Ortega is opening his first brick-and-mortar in Pomona in March 2018; Mariscos Jalisco has been an LA institution included on nearly every dining list (including the Eater LA Essential 38 and the national Eater 38) and is a two-time Vendy Cup winner. I note their San Juan de Los Lagos, Jalisco-style fried shrimp tacos, spicy ceviches, and seafood cocktails are the highlights—the iconic fried shrimp taco is doused with a savory, mild salsa and dressed with avocado slices, a combination copied so much by nearby trucks and stands that many locals consider it an original Boyle Heights recipe. Ortega chose Pomona because of the growing Latino demographics and its role as a gateway to the Inland Empire; the new location will have a parking lot with 15 spaces and seating for about 30, the menu will initially mirror the truck (which will remain in Boyle Heights), and Ortega plans to add new items and eventually pursue a liquor license — fans might even get to try his legendary michelada made with shrimp stock." - Bill Esparza
