"I report that Bombay Wraps, a fast-casual Indian chain with locations in the Loop and Streeterville, is opening a Lakeview outpost at 3149 1/2 N. Broadway Street; if a Thursday inspection goes well it could open the following Monday, and the first month will focus on evenings before adding afternoon lunch hours. The husband-and-wife team of managing partner Ali Dewjee and CFO Falguni Dewjee opened their first restaurant on Wells Street eight years ago and have since tweaked the menu; service is arranged as an assembly line so customers can watch paratha wraps, rice bowls, and salads prepared in front of them to help demystify Indian flavors for newcomers. Customers choose shredded lamb, paneer, chicken tikka, or beef (the beef kebob was added as the clientele diversified), and there are vegan and vegetarian options. The Lakeview space — a gutted former dry cleaner with room for about 12 seats — emphasizes carryout and delivery ("I'd rather be a Netflix than a Blockbuster," Dewjee said). The owners envision eventually growing to eight locations, targeting Chicago neighborhoods like Bucktown/Wicker Park, Lincoln Park, and Hyde Park and even suburbs such as Evanston, Schaumburg, and Naperville." - Ashok Selvam
