"In Fishtown, Riverwards Produce—founded and owned by Vincent Finazzo—operates as a nimble, local market that pivots when materials are scarce: Finazzo emphasizes that the problem is 'less about food production and more about material shortages' such as glass bottles, metal cans, paper bags, and small components, and reports that 'all of our distributors are experiencing shortages.' One of Riverwards’s largest distributors has only been able to deliver about 75 percent of what is ordered, making availability unpredictable and sometimes leaving whole weeks without certain items. Because Riverwards focuses on independent farmers and local producers and avoids strict contracts and large-volume buys, the shop can quickly switch suppliers, offer preorders, and host pop-up events with local vendors (including local hard cider and fresh oysters) to help customers get what they need for the holidays—Finazzo insists 'you’re still going to have a badass holiday' even if some staples are missing." - Kae Lani Palmisano
