"Tucked in a Marietta shopping center in East Cobb, I found Bagelicious feels like a moment captured in time — the deli opened in 1990 and the interior has changed little, with blue café tables, New York Yankees memorabilia, and cold cases overflowing with classic deli items that are hard to find in metro Atlanta. Owner Tom Carola (who runs the shop with his wife Carol) keeps operations old-school — it’s cash or check only for walk-ins, dough is always prepared on Sundays, and bagels are boiled the original way before baking — and the deli cases offer ten cream cheeses (including olive and scallion), tuna fish, white fish, chicken and egg salads, and meats such as pastrami, corned beef, sliced turkey breast, and beef tongue. Regulars rave about the New York–style Jewish deli staples and baked goods — from sesame seed bagels with vegetable cream cheese to the Tuna Luna sandwich on an everything bagel (hold the tomato, add muenster) and cookies like black-and-whites and Linzer tarts — and many people drive across the metro, even past chain competitors, to eat here. Carola is often behind the counter slicing meat or preparing orders; the shop has minimal marketing or social media presence, relying on word of mouth and longtime community loyalty, particularly within East Cobb’s Jewish community. The next generation — his children Hannah Dombrowski and Alex Carola — plan to keep things the same when they take over, though they may start taking credit cards.
