"I checked out a new fancy ping-pong venue in Boston’s Fort Point (30 Melcher St) that opened on October 26: Spin, a chain founded over a decade ago with locations in New York City, Chicago, Seattle and beyond, and whose investors and cofounders include actress and ping-pong enthusiast Susan Sarandon. The expansive space has 14 ping-pong tables, a full kitchen and bar, two private rooms, a bathtub, and even “ballers” who chase after stray balls; during regular hours tables are $39 per hour (up to 10 people per table), with walk-ins accepted Tuesday through Saturday from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. or midnight depending on the night, and advanced table reservations and private event rentals available. The menu leans comfort-foody and meant to be shared—think wings, pizzas, Fluffernutter wontons, and Boston cream pie—and cocktail highlights include the coffee-based Killin the Dunks (which includes Vermont maple syrup) and the T (rye, Aperol, lemon, cinnamon, apple cider). Local artist Blind Fox painted pop-art and graffiti-style murals for the space, and Spin partnered with Boston-based Artists for Humanity to provide paid creative work for teens. For safety, all Spin employees are required to be vaccinated, masks are mandatory inside the Boston location unless actively eating or drinking, QR-code ordering is in place, and the venue is 21+ after 9 p.m." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal
