Steve Shulman, Co-Owner of Leschi Market, Dies from COVID-19 | Eater Seattle

"A 72-year-old family-owned neighborhood grocery store where Steve Shulman started working at age 9, the market became his life: he became a butcher more than 30 years ago and eventually took over the business with his nephew, Yousef. He was praised for his dedication to community organizations, was a founding member of the Seattle Police Foundation, expanded the market’s wine program two decades ago and organized tastings to raise money for local charities. The Seattle Times called him “The heartbeat of Leschi.” After Shulman tested positive for COVID-19 the store closed for a deep clean and announced the case on its official Facebook page; when it reopened, many longtime customers came to offer their support, and the market posted that there will be a celebration of Steve’s life when it becomes safe to gather." - Gabe Guarente
