"I report that the Commodore, a trusty Logan Circle pub known for serving affordable beers and Southern bar food, was forced to close today after a pipe froze during a recent cold snap and burst in a vacant apartment directly above, causing “a lot of damage” and leaving the bar without power and water until the water lines are secured. Brian Westlye, the chief operating officer of the management group that runs the bar, says drywall will likely need to be replaced and that they've already reached out to their drywall guy and contractor, and they expect to turn it around pretty quick depending on how bad the damage is. Because the management group does not own the building, any insurance claims will go through the landlord. In the meantime I feel for the staff who will be out of work during typically slow winter months, though Westlye notes that repeat neighborhood customers helped the Commodore maintain business through a partial government shutdown and that their numbers are even, if not up, from last year at this time." - Gabe Hiatt
