"I discovered Zoagies, a bright red food truck parked at 693 South Broadway in Pennsville, New Jersey, where chef-owner Ezell Barnes has turned idiosyncratic, deep-fried sandwiches into a regional phenomenon. He calls his business a 'purple cow'—frying nearly everything, including his trademark hoagie rolls using a proprietary technique that crisps the outside without greasing the interior—and he and six employees crank out subs like the three-and-a-half-pound Zochness Monster (loaded with zhrimp, zrab, zish, and zobster, topped with lettuce, grape tomatoes, and a special house zauce), plus cheesesteaks and a menu that reads more like a po' boy or beach fish stand. Barnes's theatrical Zinglish, floppy blue chef's hat, and social-media-famous fans who travel an hour or more make Zoagies feel like a tourist attraction; meals come with crinkle-cut fries and fried Oreos, and the truck is open every day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for walk-ins only. Started in his backyard and once based out of a Sunoco station, Zoagies now draws devotees nationwide, and Barnes is planning 'Zoagie Land' to bring his truck and other local vendors to Salem to help boost the community." - Dayna Evans
