"A sumptuous Art Deco-style supper club in View Park-Windsor Hills, this November 2024 debut pairs mahogany warmth, white oak floors, custom banquettes, and a grand piano on a modest stage where live jazz often plays with the kind of fine dining South LA has long lacked, honoring Black Los Angeles history while keeping locals in the neighborhood. Owners Yonnie Hagos and Ajay Relan, with collaborator Issa Rae, set the scene for chef Geter Atienza’s supper club menu—crudos, braised lamb shank, a Black Angus burger, and wagyu strip loin—served to an elegant crowd. Order Parker house rolls with truffle butter the moment you sit, then the deeply rich braised short rib sauced Perigaux-style over truffle risotto with crimini mushrooms; fill the table with organic roasted chicken, baked macaroni and cheese, charred broccolini, and Peruvian scallop crudo. At brunch, the blue crab quiche with a glass of sparkling wine is all one needs, and the formidable John Coltrane cocktail A Love Supreme mixes vodka, Midori, Cointreau, and lemon. Though there’s no official dress code, plan to dress up to honor the long-gone Hotel Somerville and the former Central Avenue jazz venues of the 1940s. Reservations are a must at one of the hottest seats in town; if fully booked, ask for a bar seat for the best view of the stage." - Mona Holmes
