"A Bucktown restaurant opened in May by chef Jacob Bickelhaupt with backing from a single investor, suburban businessman Harpal Singh. Five months after opening, the restaurant became the center of a high-profile legal dispute when the chef filed an October lawsuit seeking $250,000, alleging that his ex-wife damaged the business by posting about a prior domestic violence incident and violating a non-disparagement agreement. The suit includes alleged personal texts in which the ex-wife claims to possess video evidence and threatens to release it; attempts to serve her were unsuccessful (she has since moved to California), and the case has generated multiple status hearings. The chef and his attorney have declined to comment. The suit and the surrounding publicity are presented in the filing as harming the restaurant’s reputation and finances." - Ashok Selvam
