"Visiting Eldr is a journey — literally, in that it’s perched among the steep, winding lanes and wooded hills just north of downtown. But the restaurant itself is transportative. Housed in a storybook red-shingled cottage, Eldr’s menu always feels as bright and welcoming as its airy yet warm interior. Starter offerings burst with colorful salads and fresh, local veggie options, and there are usually several housemade pasta dishes and pizzas to choose from. Chef and co-owner Eric Burleson ran erstwhile downtown breakfast spot Over Easy for many years, and many of his locally beloved flavors manifest in Elder’s brunch service with dishes like the Dutch baby with caramel and apple butter or shrimp and grits with fra diavolo sauce, foraged sochan, pancetta, and herbs." - Gina Smith
