"Started as a supper club to provide a space for people feeling lonely, this nonprofit quickly pivoted at the start of the pandemic into a large-scale food donation operation for elderly Asian New Yorkers. Led by Moonlynn Tsai and Yin Chang with volunteers and rotating partner kitchens, the group has donated over 65,000 hot meals, groceries, and care packages, asking partner cooks to prepare dishes that evoke the flavors of seniors’ grandparents to offer comfort and cultural familiarity. Beyond addressing food insecurity, the effort explicitly combats the isolation and anti-Asian hate elders have faced, and the founders emphasize the personal and interpersonal strengths—including how their long partnership helps them coordinate and sustain the work—that make the program effective and deeply appreciated by recipients." - Terri Ciccone
