"On Stockton Street I discovered a beachy new outpost that aims to be a true neighborhood hangout: North Beach Cantina (1548 Stockton Street) is open for happy hour and dinner from 4–10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday with plans to expand to seven days and later-night hours. The menu aims for wide appeal—tacos, burritos, flautas, salads, burgers, and chili cheese nachos—with every item priced under $20 while highlighting quality ingredients like Snake River Farms American wagyu beef, Kurobuta pork, antibiotic-free chicken, and wild-caught gulf shrimp; the team is planning promotions like Taco Tuesday with discounted drinks. The operation is led by managing partner Chris Cheeseman alongside industry pros Doug Marschke, Luis Cupul, and Gabe Erhartic, who collectively run several sibling Bay Area spots (Underdogs Too, Underdogs Tres, Underdogs Cantina, Tacko, and San Benito House). Because the space previously housed Tacolicious’ catering hub and had a large prep kitchen and a 2013 remodel, the partners were able to move in with only cosmetic updates—reclaimed wood paneling, upgraded lighting, and hand-painted murals and signage—and they’re continuing community meal deliveries to people experiencing homelessness out of the new kitchen." - Lauren Saria
