Ficklewood Ciderworks

Cider bar · Long Beach

"Long Beach is already rich with craft beer production, and a new cidery is about to join that movement of locally-based creators. This isn’t just a big deal for Long Beach, but for the entire region as an entire house dedicated to cider creation is a rare thing throughout the U.S. Ficklewood Ciderworks will start churning ciders out in 2019, with the designation of the second cidery in the area after Honest Abe in Carson, according to the Long Beach Post. Ficklewood Ciderworks’s owners Joe Farrier and Stefan Enjem want to return cider to its dryer origins, where the sugar is limited or eliminated out during the fermentation process. And they’ll do all of this right in Downtown Long Beach at a former post office and a DMV building with Ficklewood and other forthcoming tenants. Ficklewood will keep things simple, with six fermenting tanks and a taproom featuring six ciders on tap. The neighborhood on Lime and Broadway is next to Long Beach’s Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles, and just a skip away from the bustle of Downtown Long Beach. Ficklewood will occupy half the space, and will even take production to the planned rooftop garden, where Farrier and Enjem will grow ingredients used for producing cider." - Mona Holmes
