"I visited the new biergarten from North Park’s Eppig Brewing, which opens Friday, February 9, and is housed in a former boatyard in a private marina along Point Loma’s America’s Cup Harbor, so virtually every seat has panoramic views of the harbor and Downtown San Diego. Most seating is on a wrap-around 2,000-square-foot patio that will have both shading and heat by the brewery’s grand opening celebration in early March. The tasting room features 20 taps pouring the newest beers — Buoyancy Control IPA and Tootie Frootie Sour Ale with blueberry and black currant — alongside a number of award-winning brews, and the recipe for Civility, the San Diego Summer Ale that was principal brewer Nathan Stephens’s very first Eppig beer, is written across one wall. Initially operating noon to 8 p.m. daily and family-friendly, it serves a menu prepared by a local chef with snacks, sandwiches and wraps as well as cheese and chocolate truffle samplers designed to pair with beer; customers are also welcome to bring their own food, with Point Loma Seafood and Mitch’s Seafood conveniently nearby. A public parking lot in front of the Brigantine Restaurant is a short stroll away, the brewery plans to install a bike rack, and co-founder Stephanie Eppig says the North Park facility is close to maxing out its 1,500-barrel-a-year capacity, so they are actively looking for larger production space." - Candice Woo
