"I'm looking forward to Storyhouse Spirits putting down roots in the East Village at 1220 J Street: the new 7,500-square-foot warehouse will house lower-level and mezzanine dining and a 5,000-square-foot distilling facility that will be visible behind glass and accessible for tours. The restaurant will hinge on a wood-fired oven, producing relaxed bar snacks and more composed dishes including flatbreads, claypot mussels, onion soup, and saffron clams. Co-founder and head distiller Matt Kidd plans to start with a neutral vodka and a Meyer lemon-and-cucumber–infused vodka, a classic London dry gin and a gin made with local botanicals, plus other clear spirits from a white rum to an unaged white whiskey, while bourbon, rye and other whiskeys will be barrel-aged for future release. Storyhouse will feature a full cocktail bar serving drinks made with its house spirits, and until its brown spirits are ready it will source other products with similar flavor profiles; co-founder and director of business development Steve Kuftinec says the distillery and restaurant are slated to launch in early August with initial hours of 3 p.m.–11 p.m. Monday–Friday and 10 a.m.–11 p.m. on weekends." - Candice Woo
