"A submarine-sandwich chain that became infamous in 2003 after adopting Joel Veitch’s bizarre Spongmonkeys—potato-shaped, human-toothed, rodent-like characters whose hoarse jingle “We love the subs” went viral. The ads provoked backlash from both franchisees and customers and were discontinued in 2004, and the chain later struggled financially, filing for bankruptcy in 2014 and closing more than 4,000 stores.
