"I learned the Bay Area’s favorite large, bustling garlicky festival is canceled this year and could remain canceled for the "foreseeable future." Organizers blamed a combination of COVID-19 uncertainties and prohibitive insurance requirements, plus the Garlic Festival Association having lost money for close to a decade; they also said the group made no revenue in 2019 and 2020 and had to pivot to smaller events in 2021. The festival is additionally named as a defendant in several lawsuits stemming from the 2019 shooting that left three people dead and 17 injured, and those suits are still pending. The plan now is to abandon the larger model and instead stage smaller events for 2022, such as a June 24 golf tournament, a concert at Clos La Chance Winery, and a farm-to-table dinner later in the year." - Dianne de Guzman
