"After a year-long delay caused by a malfunctioning sprinkler, the long-anticipated reopening of Mermaid Inn at 335 Columbus Avenue (at West 76th Street) has arrived this week from Danny Abrams and Cindy Smith, the duo behind three other local oyster bars. The uptown spot runs a happy hour from 4:30 to 6 p.m. with oysters and Littlenecks at $1.75 apiece (minimum six), mini tacos and clam chowder at $3.50 each, and items like spinach and artichoke dip ($10) and calamari ($12). I expect starters such as Parker House rolls, wedge salad, lobster knuckles escargot-style with herb butter on crusty bread ($20), and smoked trout dip, and mains including cioppino ($32), a burger ($26), steak au poivre ($42), and sea bass with lemon caper butter ($34)." - Melissa McCart
