"I found a compact Chinatown spot with room for only 28 diners, settled between Ding Tea and the Korean barbecue of Honey Pig in the Spring Oaks Shopping Center; despite the modest 1,200-square-foot footprint, the kitchen offers a casual, full menu that expands well beyond banh mi. Specialties include a $9.95 Hainanese chicken rice platter, the $8.95 beef stew egg noodles, shrimp flakes steamed rice cakes, pork rice rolls, and the $7.95 “xoi man” (sticky rice with shredded chicken, pork terrine and Chinese sausage), and the menu also features many rice or egg noodle soups and familiar noodle dishes. Banh mi baguette options range from cold deli and pâté, fried egg pork terrine, fish cake, to head cheese and pâté, with sides of pork and vegetarian buns, pork puff pastry and crispy fried pork, and shrimp egg rolls; beverages include smoothies, Thai and Vietnamese coffees, and hot teas brewed by the pot." - Bradley Martin
