"Founded in 2008 by executive director Brian Hicks as part of the parent nonprofit Harvest Hands Community Development, Humphreys Street Coffee operates as a nonprofit roastery that now aims to open its first specialty coffee shop in Wedgewood-Houston with a June target. I appreciate that the operation employs and mentors 16 teenagers each year from low-income South Nashville neighborhoods in the art of coffee roasting, and that profits from its wholesale business are rolled back into programs and scholarships that support those students. The roastery began in the basement of the now-former Humphreys Street United Methodist Church before moving to new digs, and the current renovation brings the business full circle back to the neighborhood." - Matt Rogers
