"This coffee shop at 1772 Rainbow Boulevard, at the intersection with Oakey Boulevard, became the first in Nevada to file a petition with the National Labor Relations Board to join a national union campaign representing baristas. In an open letter to the company's president and interim CEO, workers said the existing relationship has a power imbalance and lacks accountability, stating they have not been treated as partners and lack respect or a true voice; they said they are organizing to build a better partnership with the company, uphold its mission and values, and hold onto the 'Third Place.' The store’s effort is part of a nationwide wave that began in December in Buffalo and has produced petitions from more than 100 stores across over 19 states; workers report strong opposition from the company, while organizers claim more new unions among the chain's workers formed in the past 12 months than at any U.S. company in the last 20 years. The company did not immediately respond to requests for comment." - Janna Karel
