"Opening this summer in Fairfax’s Mosaic District at 2911 District Avenue, Suite 140, Tawle is a Middle Eastern communal-menu concept spun out of Maydan’s pandemic takeout pivot. The name means “table” in Arabic, and the restaurant will reproduce the family-style meals it became known for at Maydan while also offering prix-fixe and à la carte options with stronger Egyptian influences. Omar Hegazi — an Egyptian-American chef who ran Zooba in New York City and worked as sous chef at Bourbon Steak in Georgetown and at Zaytinya in Texas — will serve as executive chef for both Tawle locations. The stand-alone Mosaic location is expected to open before the planned Market at International Square (1850 K Street NW), and it will occupy the spot previously held by Jinya Ramen." - Stephanie Carter
