"A branch of the acclaimed Filipino eatery is headed to Westfield Plaza Bonita in National City: founded in Quezon City in 1997 and now a certifiable hit in the Philippines with more than 130 branches worldwide (including Singapore and Qatar), Gerry’s Grill is known as a family-friendly restaurant with large communal tables and shareable platters. The menu features grilled items like squid, chicken skewers, and beef ribs as well as classic Filipino dishes ranging from sizzling plates of sisig to stewed bicol express and crispy pata, or deep-fried pork knuckles. The National City restaurant, located on Level 2 of the mall, will hold 180 diners and should open this August; the company says it will fly in its own kitchen staff from the Philippines to ensure consistency. There are three outposts in the United States, the closest currently in Artesia just southeast of Los Angeles." - Candice Woo
