"Known for its soup dumplings and mapo tofu, China Mama at 3420 S. Jones Blvd. was shut down by the Southern Nevada Health District after a routine inspection on April 9 found 46 demerits—five more than the threshold for immediate closure. Inspectors found staff not properly washing their hands, spoiled food, food held at the wrong temperature, food unprotected from potential contamination, ineffective pest control measures, and the reuse of single-use items. This marks the fifth time since 2008 the restaurant earned a C grade, and in 2010 it came within two points of being shut down. Despite these issues, the specialty is xiao loong bao—eight-to-an-order steamed soup dumplings that squirt juice when pierced—and I think the restaurant does the best job of them in Vegas, thanks to a fine, fatty pork filling and reasonably tender dough." - Susan Stapleton
