"Tucked around the corner from Jersey City’s India Square and on the edge of the PATH’s sunken trainbed, Gloria’s is a hopping Mexican place where tacos, enchiladas, and burritos are just a point of departure: in the southern Mexican style hand-patted sopes, huaraches, quesadillas, and gorditas carry many of the same fillings. It opens at 7 a.m. with a broad breakfast list (chilaquiles with three eggs, omelets, tamales, pancakes) and the highly recommended scrambled eggs with cactus and onions; the premises are functional with textile-covered tables and tubular metal furniture and have a real neighborhood feel as patrons drift in for conversation and a champurrado. The solid, inexpensive tacos (three for $8–$10) are the thing to grab — carnitas are a clear winner, cooked crisp but still moist — with 13 fillings ranging from grilled chicken to mixed pork tripe, and the menu also lists non‑Mexican deli curiosities like tuna sandwiches, gyros, wraps, and meal-sized salads." - Robert Sietsema
