"A massive 23,000-square-foot entertainment complex at 1400 Discovery Boulevard that opened January 30, Spare Birdie Public House feels like a baroque mashup of Top Golf and a local bowling alley: it has a spacious patio and stage for live performances, a spectrum of games from billiards and bocce ball to augmented-reality golf and indoor putting greens, and an ornate interior with leather seating and an emerald-green, tile-filled bar. Created by Studio DZO and designed by Noack Little Architects, the restaurant pairs Southern staples with a raw bar—appetizers include crab cakes and spicy lamb meatballs, entrees range from a short rib melt and blackened shrimp pasta to Norwegian salmon, and highlights include grilled oysters and a truffle brie grilled cheese—while the bar serves cocktails and local beer and wine. It's the second project from brothers Aaron and Taylor Holmes (who run Goodfolks in Georgetown), with executive chefs Justin Manzi and Eduardo Nava leading the kitchen; Manzi also serves as culinary director and previously worked at Jack Allen’s Kitchen and Cover 3. The venue is currently open at limited capacity until its full opening on February 20; for early visits call (737) 587-3332. Hours are 10 a.m.–12 a.m. Sunday–Thursday and 10 a.m.–2 a.m. Friday–Saturday." - H. Drew Blackburn
