"I noted that, after surviving major flood damage and the departure of founder Tim Pipes — who cited health issues and called the flooding the “final straw” — the Angry Beaver reopened on August 17 to about 100 people. Under new owner Matt Baker, much is familiar: the hockey stick–toting beaver logo, hockey-team stools around a fully stocked bar, and poutine offered with three different gravy options, while new custom team signs, modern light fixtures, and ceiling fans give the place a refreshed feel. Fans complained on Facebook about the missing vintage NHL jerseys, but Baker explains they were wet from the flood and boxed up by insurance; rather than replace them at great cost he opted for a fresh coat of paint and new TVs, planning 14 in total to show more games. Baker is repositioning the Beaver as a broader sports bar — the reopening centered on the Seahawks’ preseason game, the new décor prominently features football and baseball teams, and he plans to “unofficially” make the spot a Washington State University Cougars bar drawing on his past ownership of the Magnolia Village Pub — though he promises “plenty of hockey once the season starts.” Having moved within walking distance, he says he’s focused on the local community and hopes to “break that curse.”" - Brianna Gunter
