"Returning to Ballston this year, the beloved sports bar that opened in 1995 and spent two decades in Arlington before relocating to Fairfax in 2017 will move into 900 N. Glebe Road (a 6,382-square-foot space half a mile from its old outpost near the Ballston Metro). Owner Mark Handwerger promises the same billiards, pinball, and extensive draft-beer selection, and most of the vintage furniture is coming back though the pool and shuffleboard tables will be replaced after 25 years. The comfort-food menu will remain largely unchanged — no-frills bar food like burgers, chicken and waffles, and wings coated in mumbo sauce — while new additions include select in-house beers brewed off-site in partnership with Handwerger’s other Arlington venture, Board Room. Similar to the original location, the exterior will feature a large garage door that this time opens to a sizable outdoor patio, a feature Handwerger says suits post-COVID dining habits; despite many nearby bars, he’s confident CarPool will regain its longtime local following." - Kalina Newman
