"This West Covina outpost makes it official this Thursday, but it's a far cry from its former self. Once a staple across the LA basin in the 1980s and 1990s, Gaucho Grill has been fully revamped in look, menu, and ownership: Buenos Aires–born Adrian Amosa, who began working with Gaucho Grill in 2008, and real estate broker Kirk Cartozian took over the brand in 2015, reworking it for years, opening a Downey location earlier this spring and spending almost six months transforming the 3,200-square-foot former Chinese restaurant space in West Covina. Even the Brentwood location closed in March 2018 as the brand shifted hands. Gone is the dark, minimalist dining room with clunky tables and the massive old menu; the new menu is stripped down and easier to navigate, focusing on generous cuts of ribeye, short rib, and filet mignon alongside empanadas, milanesas, salads, and protein-filled sandwiches. I also note the Downey and West Covina locations sit adjacent to new and forthcoming Porto’s Bakeries, and the West Covina hours are Sunday–Thursday 11 a.m.–10 p.m., Friday 11 a.m.–11 p.m., and Saturday 11 a.m.–11:30 p.m." - Mona Holmes
