Edamamé - Review - City Centre - Oxford - The Infatuation

"On Thursday nights only, you can get some of Oxford’s best sushi at Edamamé. This pantry-sized spot on Holywell Street has three different menus for different days and times of the week, but you should plan your visit around Thursday evenings. The energy in the room—a mix of frantic darting from the staff and excitement from anyone waiting for their gunkan set—will make you feel lucky to be here, mostly because of the food, but partly, selfishly, because of the queue that starts forming outside as it hits 5:30pm. Although the menu system seems more confusing than following a conversation between Love Islanders who use ‘generally’ and ‘genuinely’ interchangeably, Edamamé doesn’t do too much—because it doesn’t need to. Groups are made to wait outside until their friend has finished parking, couples squeeze onto sharing tables, and platters of nigiri and gunkanzushi (a “sushi boat” of rice, topped with fish and wrapped in nori) are on every table. Get the hotate special if it’s on—the nigiri and temaki are our favourite things to get here. The hand rolls are generously filled with spicy tuna and should be part of your order too. If you do end up here on any other day, we have a feeling the people at Edamamé will take care of you. Just make sure your entire table arrives on time. photo credit: Rianne Shlebak photo credit: Rianne Shlebak photo credit: Rianne Shlebak Pause Unmute" - Rianne Shlebak
