"Kiriba Sushi is a Japanese restaurant inside a rickety old house with yellow siding up in Shoreline. It also happens to be one of our favorite places in town for a sushi lunch or dinner that's equal parts peaceful and quick. The sushi selection is vast, and there’s something that’ll work for everyone. An order of ponzu-marinated seared albacore or yellowtail nigiri could please someone who loves an expensive omakase. And those iffy about raw fish will be thrilled with the white tiger roll, filled with shrimp tempura and topped with a torched piece of toasty parmesan-crusted escolar. Even just six pieces of generously portioned salmon belly are satisfying. Food Rundown Nigiri Seared Albacore: The albacore is marinated in ponzu, seared around the edges, and raw in the middle. It belongs on the table.Seared Salmon Toro: The blowtorch is used lightly here, which results in just enough fat rendering to make this slab of belly fantastic.Salmon: Ordering any kind of salmon here is going to be a good idea—their salmon nigiri is buttery and thick. White Tiger Roll The best part of this shrimp tempura roll is the topping: a slice of escolar and a crust of torched parmesan cheese. This preparation could even make a styrofoam packing peanut taste good—even though some bites can be a little burnt. Tempura Fish Roll A battered and fried sushi roll kind of sounds like it could be a blasphemous grease trap. This one is light and crispy instead, filled with tangy miso-marinated fish, and topped with a spicy red sauce. Spicy Tuna Roll We like Kiriba’s combination of minced tuna, tobiko, finely chopped green onions, and a heavy drizzle of spicy mayo. It's good, but we prefer other versions around Seattle that don't have so much mayonnaise." - Aimee Rizzo
