Have delicious Southern food in a vintage setting at Pure Quill Superette - Review - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"When modern life feels like a fast-moving hamster wheel, jump off and hit this Edgewood diner with a charming retro feel and tasty lunch and breakfast classics. Just down the street from El Tesoro, Pure Quill Superette channels the old-school luncheonette spirit with pale yellow booths, black vintage chandeliers, and Dolly Parton belting out bangers in the background. You won't find TVs buzzing here. Instead you can inspect the wall covered with vintage cigarette ads while you tear into a rice bowl topped with fried chicken liver and creamy gravy or the massive (and messy) fried cod sandwich dripping with a tangy tartar-like sauce—our favorite item on the menu. And if you want to pick up groceries for later, the superette also harkens back to a time when people said "harkens back" and shopped for all their essentials at small-town general stores. So you can also come here to pick up locally butchered meats, produce, and a variety of excellent pickled vegetables. Oh, and no one will judge if you snag a bottle of champagne to go with your hot dog. Food Rundown photo credit: Amy Sinclair Cod Royale A lightly fried piece of cod swims in a tangy tartar-like sauce with shredded lettuce and pickles. And it’s all bookended by a buttery bun. In theory, it sounds simple, but once you take the first bite, the flavors marvelously combine to form one of the best (and messiest) sandwiches ever. photo credit: Amy Sinclair Fried Chicken Livers With Rice & Gravy If you don’t like chicken liver, this dish will change your mind. Seriously, order this. photo credit: Amy Sinclair Fried Chicken Sandwich Perfectly fried chicken. Pickles. Lettuce. Honey mustard. A buttery bun. It’s simple, but it’s fantastic. photo credit: Amy Sinclair Pimento Burger The pimento cheese on this burger is melty, which we love. The patty is thick and full of meaty flavor. It’s not going on our best burger list, but it’s a really solid effort. All The Way Dog This hot dog is wet. It’s loaded down with smoky chili, tangy slaw, and a cheese sauce, so it’s hard to eat with your hands. But we’d order it again when we’re craving a dog and don’t mind using utensils to get the job done. photo credit: Amy Sinclair Sausage, Egg, & Cheese A fluffy egg patty, smoky sausage, and cheese sauce sit on a buttery bun. It’s a great way to start your morning or refuel in the afternoon. And don’t skip those fried green tomatoes on the side that have the ideal level of crisp and crunch. Squash Pancakes These have a hoe cake consistency and hardly any squash flavor. But with a drizzle of thick syrup and a slight brush of apple butter we dig it. photo credit: Amy Sinclair photo credit: Amy Sinclair" - Juli Horsford
