"Okan is a tiny, bustling Osakan canteen that sits in the shadow of the London Eye near Waterloo, but is much more worthy of your time than the big wheel. This is the ideal solo lunch spot or post-work okonomiyaki debrief with a co-worker. Just one, because it’s a tight space with a handful of tables crowded with stools, and a counter that overlooks the kitchen. It’s a laid-back space where ties are loosened, rounds of Asahi are ordered, and those eating alone find themselves involuntarily tapping their foot to the Japanese rock music drifting out of the kitchen. All of the saucer-like okonomiyaki flying out to tables are good. But we like the tofu and kimchi one best, with its pleasingly crispy crust, tangy kimchi, and generous squiggle of Kewpie mayo. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Pause Unmute" - Sinéad Cranna
