"V&S has all the makings of a perfect Italian deli. The vinegar-scented space is narrow enough that everyone has to walk sideways. Everywhere you look is occupied by cheese, thinly sliced deli meats, or framed photos of famous customers, and the small army of workers is constantly in motion, assembling subs for long lines of locals jittery with sandwich anticipation. Those glorious subs on structurally sound homemade bread are the headliners here. V&S has lots of options, but it’s hard to do better than the classic Italian combo or V&S special with translucent mortadella, soppressata, and provolone. If you’re in a hot sub mood, the chicken cutlet or eggplant parm is a good idea.
