Hausu - Review - Peckham - London - The Infatuation

"A Peckham listening bar housed in perhaps the most beautiful former public toilets in London is teetering on the edge of satire, but Hausu is the kind of place we could see ourselves in regularly. Split between three spaces, two more restaurant-y in a counter and dining room, and one more casual in the bar up front, this spot is just downright useful. The wines by the glass hover around the £9 mark and the soundtrack is all very Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show. Couples stop in for a glass and friends bed in for dinner and brilliant, wobbling scallop and prawn toast. The small plates, which take inspiration from around the world, show a delicious ingenuity rather than the annoying kind, and sitting here with some skewers and a glass of wine after work is the kind of decompression we all deserve. Food Rundown Dad's Broth Inspired by one of the chef’s dads, this chicken broth, layered with lemongrass, coriander, and all kinds of goodness, is excellent. More menus should have little cups of broth. photo credit: Jake Missing Scallop & Prawn Toast A dish that feels like it’s being constantly reinvented, this wobbly sphere of scallop and prawn toast is pretty good. It's covered in a black sesame seed armour and served with a pool of sriracha-style chilli sauce. Squid Ink Noodles, White Crab A dish of al dente noodles topped with a chilli, spring onion, and lemongrass crab broth is flavourful without breaking any boundaries.
