Cafe d'Anvers - Review - East Harlem - New York - The Infatuation

"The folks behind mousse brand Mojo converted their dessert shop in East Harlem to a full Belgian restaurant, and it’s a great casual option for a giant bowl of moules or steak frites with tangy au poivre. There’s a bar where you can sit and ask the owners about the Trappist beers on offer, and a row of tables where friends catch up over beef stew and wine. All the red accents make it feel pretty cozy inside—make sure to check out the red light district-themed bathroom. But if you’re on the move, you can grab a $12 burger and fries from the frietkot (a window that opens to the sidewalk), or pick up some creamy whipped mousse to go. photo credit: Evi Abeler photo credit: Sonal Shah photo credit: Evi Abeler photo credit: Evi Abeler Pause Unmute Food Rundown Croquettes Des Crevettes These shrimp croquettes are quite funky thanks to the cheesy orange sauce, and they go well with beer. photo credit: Sonal Shah Moules Frites Available in three different styles, this is a massive amount of mussels, served in the pot they were steamed in. We like the vegetable-filled Provencale-style ones, which are full of carrots, tomato, and celery. photo credit: Willa Moore Steak Frites A small sirloin steak with tangy au poivre on the side for $39. The Belgian-style frites are thick-cut and tallow-fried—if that’s a style you enjoy, they’re a great example. The plate is more potato than meat, but the 8-oz. steak is nicely cooked. photo credit: Sonal Shah Mousse The mousse is a must, and we like the chocolate and passion fruit flavors best. But if you’re not a mousse person, a bowl of warm sour cherries with vanilla ice cream also hit the spot. photo credit: Sonal Shah" - Sonal Shah
