"Some nights, not even the world’s greatest restaurant can compete with your living room - where you can wear sweatpants and wonder what the weather might be like outside, while congratulating yourself on not having to find out. If you want that sweatpants-on-the-couch kind of night, but also think it might be healthy to get a little fresh air and eat something other than those Trader Joe’s appetizers you forgot were still in your freezer, check out Citizen Six. Coming here is like having a low-key night at your apartment, but with a menu you’re actually excited to eat. This place is a hard cider bar (serving its own brand of cider), but you’re really here for the food. It’s part Korean BBQ, part Mexican, and generally a little pub-like, too - and if that sounds like a lot for one place, know that almost everything is good. Dishes include a habanero-buttermilk fried chicken sandwich with ssam sauce, an Asian-inspired burger, and bulgogi fries we’d run half-marathons to eat more of. Drink-wise, go for the cider flights, but avoid the coffee cider. It tastes like someone poured coffee into a glass of apple juice, which we can all agree is an insult to both drinks. photo credit: Suzi Pratt You’ll be able to enjoy your food and cider in peace, since Citizen Six tends to stay fairly low-key, even on Friday nights. And while the relaxed atmosphere is part of what makes it feel like being at home, the decor is probably different from whatever you have in your apartment - unless you have tables shaped like giant tree stumps and a patio that looks directly onto a trainyard. Come to Citizen Six with some friends, and you’ll feel like you’re in an extension of your living room - with the added bonus that you didn’t need to clean up said living room first. Then go home and throw out those freezer-burned snacks. You’re better than that. Food Rundown Bulgogi Fries Perfectly seasoned crispy potatoes, with caramelized onion, marinated beef, queso fresco, fresh scallions, and sriracha mayo. You need to order these. photo credit: Suzi Pratt Double-Fried Wings Crispy, sweet, spicy, and salty - these are mandatory, too. Fish Tacos These are the best tacos here. The beer-battered fish is coated in sticky wing sauce and topped with pico de gallo and a cabbage slaw. Korean-Marinated Beef Tacos Bulgogi tacos are a good invention, especially the ones here. They’re topped with a spicy cucumber salad and sesame seeds for crunch, and come with salsa, black beans, and sriracha mayo. Fish & Chips A solid beer batter and a side of garlic aioli make the fish and chips here a good order for pickier people. Fried Chicken Sandwich Not our favorite thing here, but still a great sandwich with habanero-buttermilk fried chicken. The garlic aioli on the side is technically for the fries, but spread some on the sandwich. Pork Chile Verde Bowl The pork here is slow-cooked in salsa verde, then put in a big bowl with fluffy rice, black beans, pico de gallo, and scallions. It’s a little boring - feel free to skip in favor of the Korean tacos." - Aimee Rizzo
