"Firenze By Night has been around since the ‘80s, and we’re pretty sure their gigantic pepper grinders and life-sized statue of David have, too. The white tablecloth spot in North Beach is old-school Italian charm personified, right down to the emphatic “Buonasera!” you’re greeted with immediately upon entry. The Italian classics are solid across the board, but no visit is complete without their gnocchi, which are so pillowy that they dissolve like cotton candy when you take a bite. Next time you’ve got family in town or need a date spot before hitting nearby bars, join the regulars who greet staff with bear hugs and settle in over a bottle of wine. photo credit: Julia Chen Food Rundown photo credit: Julia Chen Gnocchi Firenze These potato dumplings in a thick tomato cream sauce are a must-get. Nod yes to the spoonful of parmesan scattered over the whole thing tableside, and get ready to inhale the entire plate in minutes. Pappardelle Alla Maria The rabbit sauce is a tad bland, but it’s overall a decent pasta. We’d prioritize the gnocchi. Pollo Con Funghi A very good roast chicken with a few saucy mushrooms on top. For a bit of protein after all that gnocchi, this is a great choice." - Julia Chen
