At Teruko, polished, pricey Japanese food and some nightclub DNA - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"This Japanese restaurant below the Hotel Chelsea is ideal for a secret rendezvous—it’s moody and dim, even when the sun’s still shining outside. Amid all the dark wood hang eight paintings by the late artist and former hotel resident Teruko Yokoi, for whom the restaurant is named. But this space also used to be a nightclub, and it’s retained a whiff of that sex appeal. Sure, you can come for a splurgy, elegant dinner of Miyazaki wagyu (sourced from a famous farm), superbly crispy red snapper, or a smoky-sweet, head-on prawn straight off the robata grill. But if you just want to wear something shimmery, sip a pickled-ginger martini or some Japanese whiskey while basking in a buzzy, subterranean scene, Teruko works for that, too. photo credit: Teruko photo credit: Teruko photo credit: Teruko photo credit: Teruko Pause Unmute" - Molly Fitzpatrick
